Greenlight Laser
Greenlight laser therapy is a minimally invasive treatment for symptoms of an enlarged prostate, a condition also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The procedure uses a high-energy laser to vaporize the excess prostate tissue that is blocking the flow of urine.
During the procedure, a urologist uses a small fiber optic device, known as a cystoscope, which is inserted through the urethra and into the prostate. The laser energy is delivered through this device to vaporize the excess prostate tissue, resulting in improved urine flow.
Greenlight laser therapy is usually done as an outpatient procedure and it's usually done under general or spinal anesthesia. Recovery time can vary depending on the patient, but most patients are able to return to normal activities within a few days after the procedure. The procedure is less invasive than traditional surgery and it has fewer side effects and complications.
The procedure is most commonly used in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of an enlarged prostate, and it's considered a safe and effective treatment option for patients who are not suitable for or who prefer not to have traditional surgery.
It's important to note that Greenlight laser therapy may not be the best option for all patients, and it should be considered after thorough evaluation and counseling by the healthcare professional. In some cases, other treatment options such as medication or watchful waiting may be more appropriate.
