John Phillips, MD, FACS

Dr. Phillips is a national leader in robotic surgery, residency training, and the basic science of urologic diseases.  His urologic training was at Yale University and he did his fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  He began robotic surgery in 2003 and has performed over 2,000 Da Vinci robotic surgeries.  A published author, he is an expert in kidney cancer and minimally invasive 'kidney preserving' surgery for the small renal mass.  He is a pioneer in MRI-based fusion prostate biopsy which has lowered infectious complication rates of prostate biopsies to zero.   With a strong background in 'neo-bladder' reconstruction after cystectomy,  he has provided total intracorporeal neobladder surgeries since 2015. Dr. Phillips is the Program Director for the Westchester Medical Center residency training program in urology and the Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology at New York Medical College.  He is the founder of the International Journal of Urologic History (www.ijuh.org), a past member of the Leadership Class of the American Urological Association, and a past President of the New York State Urologic Society.
